People who’ve actually called those “How’s my driving” numbers, why? What happened?

  1. Seriously: The driver answered on his cell phone, told me to go fuck myself, then flipped me the bird out his window. I asked reddit about this, and even though this isn't how it worked out for me, I learned that it's common for truck drivers to get a magnet with their cell phone number printed on it, then put it over the company number. So that when you call them, the actual driver answers and they can say "that's inappropriate and we'll speak to the driver about it." Then they just make sure to remove the magnet before they drop the trailer off.

  2. Driving down the local highway on the way home from school. This crazy person cuts me off, barely missing my car, then slams on her brakes, and proceeds to give me the finger constantly while screaming into her rearview mirror. I did nothing wrong. I called the number and the woman on the other end of the call was not surprised, and pretty much told me it wasn't the first time this happened with this person. She also explained that she works for some company driving that car and pretty much confirmed she was going to be fired that day.

  3. I called it once to let the company know that their driver was actually doing the speed limit in a National Park, and that I appreciated it. Every other semi was going at least 20-30 km/h over the limit.

  4. Got cut off by the local crash and dent warehouse's delivery truck, was forced into the hard shoulder. Called the number and ended up talking to the owner's wife. She was very apologetic and promised to follow up with the driver.

  5. My mom called on a Metro Bus once because the woman driving hit her car while changing lanes and would NOT pull over so she could talk to her (she even drove by a bus stop with a poor schmuck waiting in an effort to get away). It wasn't horrible damage, but still, wtf lady. When my mom called she expected to have to fight but I guess this wasn't the driver's only offense because they immediately agreed to cut a check for repairs as soon as they heard the route number.

  6. Was in my unmarked police car outside of my City, but still within my County. While I *could* make stops, I don't like to do it out of my assigned jurisdiction. Saw a plumbing van from a fairly large plumbing company in front of me driving like a complete tool. So I called the company number on the van, and as I'm doing it, I notice the driver answer a cell phone. Anyway, I politely explain that I'm calling to make a complaint about the driver of that specific van (it had an ID # on it.) to which the driver cuts me off and tells me to mind my business and then suggests that I go fuck myself. Then he hangs up. So I make the stop. I write him a few tickets, and just before I have him sign, I tell him "For the record, your driving like an imbecile IS my business..." The look of shock on his face when he realized it was me who called and when he realized what he said, was priceless. I saw him later in court and the judge got a good laugh out of the experience. 8. Called once because much of traffic was crazy and their driver was being a total pro. Every move deliberate and communicated and legal. They literally had no system in place for receiving praise.

  9. I didn't call but noticed one little company pickup truck for glass repair seemed to have one of the best drivers. Very courteous. This year I ended up with a 2 foot crack in my windshield. Guess who got my business? They were as courteous with the windshield as they are on the road.

  10. I only called one number so far in my life. It happened a few years back, when I was driving a 20 year old piece of junk car. I had just left work and in order to get home, I had to get off a ramp onto a freeway. Usually, this was no issue, but that night a semi came out of no where. When I had looked, double looked, and triple looked, I saw the semi was in the other lane that I wasn't trying to get into it. Just as I was running out of ramp to get onto the freeway, the semi driver decided he wanted to be in my lane, and ran me off the road. Luckily, my piece of junk car decided it was going to be a winner for once and I didn't crash, spin out, or anything. Just drove half in the grass, half in the gravel until the semi passed. Once he passed, I was able to get on the road again. I managed to catch up to the truck, and my passenger - a coworker who lives in the same building as me - took down the number. A minute later we were home, so I decided to call. The person I spoke to had a major attitude, like I was interrupting them from something. Even asked me, "And what would you like me to do about it?" I actually escalated the call and spoke to someone higher up within the company. They said they would take care of it, but I bothered to learn what happened or if anything came of it. I'm just lucky that I managed to keep my nerves to myself and calmly navigate back on the road and that my car didn't crap out. It could have ended much differently, looking back, such as I could have not noticed the trunk merging into my lane until it crashed into me.

  11. My boyfriend was driving my VW bug and I was in the passenger seat and a huge truck was behind us, riding our ass. Middle of winter, ice everywhere. We're in the middle of an intersection when he apparently decides we aren't going fast enough and drove around us in the intersection. My boyfriend then sped up and went around him safely, so we could get away from him. Anyways my window was slightly open and we could hear him screaming at us to get out of the car because he wanted to fight my boyfriend. We called the number on his truck and told them what happened. Their response was basically,"The only person in that area was bob (or whatever the fuck his name was) and he wouldn't hurt a fly." They gave us some half assed answer about having him take a safety class but I doubt it happened.
