What do you wish you knew your first day of college?

  1. Go see professors during office hours. PROACTIVELY. Don't wait until it's a crisis. If there's something small you don't quite get, just pop in, say hello, just to establish a friendly relationship if nothing else. It's insane how much benefit of the doubt that can earn you down the road.

  2. Not to buy text books until after a week into the term. See if the professors actually use them, and if a PDF is available online.

  3. I wish I was aware of how much the cost of food piles up. Spending a few bucks here and there, along with a going out to eat multiple times a week, really adds up; however, I don't know what my relationships would be like with certain friends, because that's how we got to know each other at first. We would grab some junk food at the gas station after the first class, plus we'd all go out to eat for lunch most of the time. Would be weird if I always tagged along and didn't eat anything.

  4. That 8 am classes are indeed difficult to wake up for, even though I left for high school at 6:15 am everyday.

  5. I am now average.

  6. Don't give up on the hobbies you had before college, it's difficult to sustain them but it is possible and the grief you get from losing them is worse than the stress of trying to keep up with a busy schedule

  7. buy last year's edition of textbooks/bind photocopied versions get an online custom fitted suit asap get a room change to get away from your shitfuck roommate

  8. What the fuck the quad was

  9. That I was going to waste a lot of time trying to be friends with people that ultimately I wouldn't be friends with.

  10. Opportunity does not come to you, you go to it. During college whether it was a girl I liked, or an internship, I thought that it would naturally present it self with little effort to me. Not the case. It was not until my 4-5th year that it become clear I needed to change.

  11. That I actually needed to do my work on time and study for tests in advance. Life would have been so much easier if I actually did some work in my free time and not procrastinated as much. Senior year was busy but I never felt too stressed because I did my work on time.
