Adults of Reddit, what film did you watch as a child and then watch again as an adult only to pick up on a bunch of things your younger self didn’t have the awareness to register or fully grasp?

  1. The Road to El Dorado. So many scenes I didn't understand had sexual innuendo in them or adult themes until I re-watched as an adult. Still a great movie.

  2. In Shrek when they are looking at Lord Farquad's Castle and Shrek says "Do you think he's compensating for something?"

  3. Corage the Cowardly Dog It's full of references that, as a kid, I didn't understand at all for example, [this episode] (https://youtu.be/du1C28wGYkM) have references to "hate against men" (because *dogs are all the same*), violence against women, lesbianism, toxic relationships and abuse, sexual abuse (the pot of flower"). It's a series from the 90's and the references where well "hidden" because of the impact it could generate and, it was supposed to be a TV show for kids

  4. I loved watching "Three's Company" when I was a kid, but I had no idea that Jack Tripper was pretending to be gay to fool the landlord until I saw it as an adult. That whole thing just sailed way over my head.

  5. Lady and the Tramp. I didn’t realize that Tramp was a fuckboy until watching the movie again recently.

  6. There’s a scene in “Clueless” where they are in PE and lined up to hit tennis balls, the teacher calls on Amber and she says she can’t because “my plastic surgeon doesn’t want me doing any activity where balls fly at my nose”, then Dion goes “well there goes your social life” That line flew right over my head when I was a kid.

  7. In the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie Casey Jones freaks out about going into the sewer and one of the turtles says "ha, he's claustrophobic". To which Casey says something like "hey, I've never even looked at another guy". Made no sense as a kid. Made sense as an adult.

  8. My 26 year old son re-watched Happy Gilmore and only just realized that Happy had sex with the older Asian lady who says to him "What...you no want breakfast?"

  9. The Simpsons (not just the movie but most episodes) it seemed so innocent when I was a kid but now I hear so many innuendos. E.g. Skinner "look at willy and his full ball sack"

  10. Not a movie, but Roseanne. Holy shit the amount of sexual innuendo in that show was way more than 8-9 year old me should have been exposed to.

  11. The movie All Dogs Go To Heaven If you change the dogs to people, it’s literally about a gangster who steals a kid from another gangster. The movie opens with Charlie literally being killed by being tied on a pier and letting a car roll down and hit him. He gets shot up with a machine gun at one point, but doesn’t die cause of the watch (and that it’s a kids movie) Also he owns a casino

  12. Osmosis Jones - all the stuff about the body and being healthy actually really applies now

  13. I've probably watched Mulan well over 100 times, from the time it came out (I was still in my mom's belly!) to now. But only a year ago or so did I actually realize this. In the scene where Shan Yu captured the two soldiers, they order them to send word to the Emperor. Then as they're running away, Shan Yu asks another hun, "How many men does it take to deliver a message?" and the other huns says, "One." and prepares to shoot an arrow. Young me just thought nothing of it. But last year-me suddenly realized he *killed* that poor boy! I was honestly shocked lol.
