What app is so useful, you can’t believe it’s free?

  1. AllTrails. If you like adventure and hiking, this app tells you where a ton of hiking trails are in your area or anywhere you want to look up. It has over 50,000 trails around the world! It tells you how many miles the trail is, how difficult it is, the elevation gain, etc. There are pictures of the trails and users can leave reviews/experiences on the trail. You can get driving directions to the trail head. It also provides a map of the trail itself and you can use Gps on the trail (if you prefer so you don’t get lost). It also tells you if the trails are dog friendly.

  2. TinyScanner. Converts photos in PDFS. Really useful if you are working with large posters and maps and need to a digital copy.

  3. KhanAcademy. I haven't been in school for 10 years. I'm working my way up to 10th grade math from very basic adding and subtracting. They have videos and exercises and its all extremely well thought out and explained. It should be $10+ a month, but its free! Edit: Thanks for the gold, kind internet stranger!

  4. Mealime. Incredible meal planning/recipe app. You choose what kind of diet you want (classic, low carb, paleo etc), choose what foods you like/don’t like/are allergic to, and from there it offers you a ton of recipes. Pick the ones that sound good and it compiles a grocery list you can easily check off. Good instructions, tells you what cookware you need too. I used to really struggle with cooking but with this app I’ve made dozens of new recipes I really like. And yes, all of that is free. Edit: apparently I didn’t recall the vegan option correctly, apologies. And yes, like most apps you would have to pay to access more features, but I get by fine on just the free. Agreed that the nutritional info should be accessible, but I personally find that bit manageable. Happy cooking!

  11. LingoDeer! It's Android only currently afaik but it's been super useful at teaching me Japanese. It teaches Chinese, Korean and Japanese. It's a really powerful little app! Edit: Good news for the Apple users, I have been informed that it is now on the App Store! Edit 2: Shoutout to /u/johsko for bringing to my attention that in the App Store it's named "Learn Japanese, Korean, Chinese" and the developer is listed as LingoDeer!
