People who have been on shows like, "Dr. Phil", did the help and services they offered post-show actually work for your situation? What was your experience like?

  1. The whole show is a scam. My sister went on it because she was a “bully”. The show completely changed the letter my mom had sent in to make it sound worse than it was. They edited my moms responses to questions on the show to get the answers they wanted. Plus you know when dr Phil talks to the people as it goes to commercial? Well this abruptly stops when it is off air. They didn’t do anything besides make the situation worse and then had the audacity to ask us to come back on a few years later for a follow up. TL;DR dr. Phil is a phony

  2. I went to school with a girl who was on maury and it pretty much ruined her life. She was on probation (or whatever juvenile version of probation is) for something and her mother took her out of state to be on the show, therefore violating probation. She was then taken into foster care. She was on Maury advertising that shes slept with 30 men and beats her mom and she was about 14 at the time. She had really long thick hair and ended up getting lice. Her mom wouldn't let the foster parents cut her hair so they spent HOURS upom hours trying to get the lice out until finally someone higher up decided it was basically child abuse and let her cut her hair. She was and still is a mess.

  5. I've heard his show will basically bring you in and spit you out. It's mostly bullshit. But the services he tell the guests to attend are legit... Thing is if someone doesn't want the help it won't matter if they agree to go.

  6. My coworker's sister is currently at some fancy rehab in the Bahama's courtesy of Mr. Phil. It's apparently her second stint on the show, and no she hasn't gotten any better. Mr. Phil is a piece of shit who preys on the suffering of the weak and uninformed. Also, the 'luxury rehab' industry is going to be looked at like 'phoenix university' in ten years time. These places exist to bilk money out of poor schmucks who think that their kids are addicts because of dope. Dope isn't to blame. Modern evidence based studies suggest that addiction is a result of social deprivation. People are prone to addiction when they feel powerless over their own circumstances, and/or hopeless in their own futures. Some substances lend themselves more to abuse, but in the end it's about a person's perception of their own ability to enact meaningful change in their lives.

  7. He sends kids to “residential treatment centers” (Turnabout Ranch for example) that are more like gulags. Really, they’re quite horrifying. r/troubledteens has several reports from folks who went there who talk about neglect, physical and verbal abuse, long terms in solitary confinement (with only a bucket in the room) and slave labor-like conditions.
