What is the best mistake you’ve ever made?

  1. Doing freelance work for a friend and getting fired from my job because of it. I ended up applying at a multitude of other jobs that same day, got a call back from a job the next day, scheduled an interview for that day, and got the job that day. I was scared shitless, obviously from getting fired, but after that, I had ended up with a much higher paying job within 24 hours.

  4. Going to prison. I know that sounds crazy. But I served 7 years for non violent drug offenses. Lived a life that hadn't amounted to anything up unitl that point. Served my time. Came home and decided it was definitely time to make some changes in my life.

  5. I accidentally left my wallet in the bathroom before a concert at Fenway Park. I went to security, and they took me to the head security guy for that section, who told me that somebody had found my wallet. I got my wallet back, and after talking to him for a little bit and telling him thank you, he asked me where I was sitting. So I showed him the ticket, and he asked me who I was with. I told him I was with my family, and he came up to our seats and asked us all for our tickets. We didn't know what was going on and thought maybe our tickets were fake. He left and came back about 10 minutes later and told us to follow him. He led us all the way from our section along the first base line far away from the stage, all the way down to the field, and kept walking us to toward this section in the front. He grabbed four folding chairs, handed us these different tickets that he made, and told us to set our seats anywhere in the section and enjoy the show. I ended up seeing Paul McCartney about 5 rows from the stage.

  9. After not getting accepted into "The best school in the world for aspiring puppeteers"in France, I, an American, threw away my return ticket and decided to make my fortune as a street performer in the streets of Paris. I was terrible. I quickly devolved from "aspiring street performer" to homeless bum with a hobby. I was eating out of garbage cans before I even left Paris and journeyed south through Dijon, Avignon, the Riviera, and finally into Italy. I had hooked up with some other 'performers' and one had a brother who attended this little art school in Florence, Italy, and when I arrived there, penniless, I decided to stay and work as a model at that school. 22 years later, I am a well respected sculptor, art historian, and teacher. I travel the world giving workshops and lectures \- I just got back from an Australia/New Zealand tour three days ago. I'm about to turn my very successful podcast on art history into a video series, I am the creator of several public monuments, and remain the only American sculptor ever to have a permanent large scale marble statue in the cityscape of Florence, where I still live and work. My studio is in a Renaissance Palazzo built 600 years ago, I live just out of Florence in a Tuscan farmhouse with a huge yard and garden \(Though in reality it is quite modest\), and I literally have not the faintest clue what my life would be like, had I not made so many bad choices so many years ago.
