Window washers of Reddit, how much do you make for washing windows on skyscrapers/tall buildings, and what is the most interesting thing you've ever seen through a window while washing it?

  1. I can't really answer this right now. I'm 96 stories up and I gotta get these fucking windows washed.

  2. Not a window washer but a building envelope consultant and tech. Work on swingstage, bosun chair and rope access. Have seen many naked women and men. Exhibitionists, old people naked, people masturbating, having sex (straight and gay). Best thing was a woman immediately in front of the window masturbating. She saw us but kept on going. Good Day !!!

  3. I've been cleaning windows for about 7 years. We don't do anything over 5 stories unless we have a lift, but the boss has told us he'll up our pay to $40/hr if any of us wanted to go thru high rise and ropes training. The thought has crossed my mind, and if my degree doesn't plan out when I graduate, I'll consider it more fully. As for the strangest thing I've ever seen? I was in a customer's mansion. Both husband and wife were of Eastern European decent. The husband had multiple medical degrees from top universities, was obviously the bread winner, intelligent, very well spoken. The wife had no degrees, seemed oddly fascinated by everything I was doing, and was very soft spoken. She cared for the 3 kids and typical house wife things. There were Bible pictures, quotes, etc in every room of the house, including tiny closets. It read very much like the husband wanted a mail order bride...

  4. I have worked as a window washer for two years and have been a manager for the last year. I do more vacation rentals in a resort town but God damn do I have some stories. To keep it short though, I will list things I have seen. 1.Furry sex 2. A guy tied up on a bed 3. A younger girl and boy seemingly left alone who was drawing with sharpies ALL over the walls. Yeah that was a fun one to call the owner of the rental and explain what I saw was happening to his house. 3. Circle jerk 4. Sadly, animal neglect 5. Lots and lots of hoarders

  5. Window washers don't want to tell us how great the job is because they don't want any competition for their jobs.

  6. Oddly specific but with a lot of potential

  7. It's tough work, and you have to be efficient (but safety minded) to make any real money. My mom dated a guy who washed windows for a couple of years. If I remember right she told me he made around $60k/year while not owning the company he worked for, and worked 4 10-12 hour days a week on commission (he got paid more the faster he worked but there were high standards). The company was paid a lump sum for each building, so they made more if they could get it done with less people and shared that with the most efficient workers. Somewhat related, this is one of my favorite "old timey" songs. George Formby - When I'm Cleaning Windows. https://youtu.be/dG1W1h5W17Y Her boyfriend did say he had seen a lot of interesting things, but never elaborated. These were mostly high rise office buildings though and not apartments or hotels. He said he got paid better to keep his eye on the windows and not what was behind them.

  9. For the frequency this question gets posted to Askreddit, you'd think skyscraper window washers made up a significant portion of the workforce...
