Redditors, what does "wealthy" look like in your eyes?
- Not sure if this counts, but i'll throw it in anyway.
Two of my closest friends are both physicians, and they're married to each other. Their combined income is between $250K-$300K.
They live modestly for their income. But what makes them seem wealthy, to me at least, is they can make certain purchases without thinking about it too much. For example, we all enjoy skiing/snowboarding. If I need to buy some new gear, it's usually a $200-$600 purchase and I can handle it but I definitely gotta be careful and plan around it. They can make the same transaction on whim, without giving it much thought.
To me, this looks like wealth. Freedom to pursue your passions without having to make other sacrifices.

- Think of an expense that could "break" a middle class family (large medical bills, damage to your house that isn't insured, etc). If that cost is "inconvenient" at worst to you, then you are wealthy.

- Ultimately it's not needing to work to get by comfortably. Many wealthy people will continue to work, but they don't have to.
A lot of people who appear to be wealthy are really just one lost job or disability away from disaster because they're mortgaged to the eyeballs. Stop paying the mortgage and it could all come crashing down. That's not wealthy.
But on a practical level, wealthy is not caring how much a bottle of wine costs at a restaurant.

- I was asked this question in a job interview not that long ago. My answer was "Options." Wealthy people have choices on so many things that poor people do not.
Didn't get the job but that would still be my answer.
