Should the legal drinking age be lowered to 18 in the U.S. why? or why not?

  1. Yes. I think when you're a young person, 18 or 21, you're either going to be a responsible drinker or not be one. From what I've experienced, most teens don't really care that it's illegal. They either drink, or they don't. The law encourages young adults ages 18-21 to leave home to drink, leading to more drunk driving and becoming intoxicated in an unfamiliar area.

  2. Honestly, it baffles me that the drinking age is 21 in the US... that means that most university students are breaking the law constantly. That's dangerous for multiple reasons, and it adds some odd taboo to something so unappealing (IMO). Do what Canada did and lower it to 19. This isn't too drastic of a change, and then most high school students don't get to it legally. Lowering it to 19 also makes it less of a fascinating thing for the rebel types.

  3. It used to be 18 around the Vietnam war, IIRC they revoked it because they were finding that people in highschool could supply alltheir friends, and the result was an increase in DUIs of younger people. I believe the states can individually decide the drinking age, but unless it's 21 or above they don't get that sweet sweet federal road subsides that every state needs so badly, so it's kinda more a state thing really.

  5. No matter the age, it must be consistent for all, go to war, sign contracts, drink, vote. One age for all.
