What is the nicest thing anyone has ever said to you?

  1. I have a 14 year old niece that has been giving her parents hell. She once asked me at a family get together if I'd braid her hair like mine. Her mom told me "You know she idolizes you. She wants to be just like you when she grows up, and that's alright by me." I dam near cried.

  2. I went to lunch with my grandpa the other day and he looked at me all teary eyed, gave me a hug, and told me "you just look so good, I'm so proud of you. Grandma would love to see you like this." The context is that I'm a recovering heroin addict, and the last time I saw him I was still getting high. Also the last time I saw my grandma before she passed. I've been sober for over a year now. :)

  3. A text from my brother, word for word “hey dick for brains, your cake wasn’t awful”.

  4. I'm a receptionist at a Doctors office. We have a patient who is just rotten, miserable and cold every time she comes in. Quick, one word answers or just a shrug and a grunt. She acts annoyed by everything. Last week she (pleasantly) told me "you have a really genuine smile. You know you go places and they're really obnoxious about it and obviously faking it? I can tell you really mean it"

  5. One of my favorite high school teachers said that I was the student that kept them from giving up on teaching.

  6. My 5yo son yelled, "wait!" the other night as I left his room after tucking him in. I expected him to be asking for something like usual, but he just said, "You're a good daddy." Really the only thing in the world I care about and I don't think anything will top that.

  7. maybe not the nicest, but something I still really enjoyed, and still think about: "You've always been a glass half full kind of guy, that's something I admire about you."

  8. "_Amarok is probably the most interesting person in the office" *Everyone just nods like its common knowledge* Good feeling.

  9. "I rarely say nice things-in fact, I never say nice things- but you just have a personality that makes sick people feel better. I always feel better when you're here." -A VERY crotchety 90 year old lady who lived in the facility I worked in.

  10. One time my friends were discussing what D&D classes we are closest to IRL. While I was pondering this question, one of my friends said, "Whatever the rest of us are, Laurcus is a paladin." When everyone agreed I was like, "Huh? Why paladin?" One of my friends answered, "You're the nicest person I know." I've never told any of them, but that meant a lot to me. I still think about it years later.

  11. Random lady dressed as pikachu started blowing kisses at me once and telling me I had an amazing smile and really shiny lovely eyes. She was adorable.

  12. An ex-girlfriend from high school, that I am still friends with 40 years later, "I hope my daughters find someone like you, to spend their life with.." To have someone think so highly of you, after seeing me along my life, and that they would want their own girls to find men like me, it has profoundly changed the way I perceive myself.

  13. One day I was feeling really blue about myself and how I look. My co-worker pulled up next to me in his car while I was walking down the street at work. He told me "I hope this doesn't offend you, but this song was on when I saw you." He turns up his radio and it's "Oh Pretty Woman" (walking down the street). Thank you DN.

  15. I said "Have a great day" to am older gentleman and his wife as we were chatting while cashing out in my retail drone days. He turned, looked me in the eye, and said, "And many more to you." Made me irrationally happy
