Americans, what customs or way of life of other countries do you wish we would adopt?
- Siestas. Also, those very cool shopping carts where all four wheels can pivot. Oh, and public bathroom stalls with actual walls and doors that go floor-to-ceiling.
— JcWoman
- High-speed trains. Our trains are severely outdated.
— fuktardy
- Well... more tolerance of nudity would be nice.
— NuderWorldOrder
- Include Tip and Sales Tax in the price of goods and services.
I like having nice, round numbers for charges; and it just makes for more consistent expenses.
— Lyude7
- I wish we were more environmentally conscious (as in littering). I find it abhorrent that people find it okay to dump whatever they want to on the side of the road or sidewalk because they are too lazy to find a trashcan.
— Morsamer
- Less hours during the work week. 40 is already too many, and 40 usually means 50-60 on salary, so no extra pay either.
— trick_12
- Not need degrees for every stupid little job because it's creating educational inflation.
— Deltaboss18
- learning more than one language fluently
— IFearEars
- I wish we would adopt Finland's public education system.
— meggieb83
- Paid maternity leave. More vacation time in general. Universal healthcare.
— DianaDestructicon
- An appreciation of vacation and family time. Too many people in the states are burned out because they can't take any time off for fear of losing their job, no matter how stressed they are or dire a family situation is.
— ToraRyeder
- Roundabouts. The number of stop signs and traffic lights I see every day that would be 10x better as a roundabout...
— scottevil110
- Smaller portion sizes.
I love America so I say this out of a place of love: we need to shed some weight. It's gross.
— troubleshank
- The strict environmental regulations that places like Germany and Sweden have for recycling, pollution, and renewable energy.
— WeslyCrushrsBuffant
- The work life balance is really insane in America. Leisure is treated like a right in most European countries. In America, it’s more of a privilege.
— amm964
- The metric system. That way, instead of 20 foot wall on the southern border, it would be a 20 METER wall!
