What instantly discourages you?

  1. Losing credit for very hard work, to a person who put in very little effort. Happened in school, the military, and the work place. Now I meticulously document everything.

  2. When someone tells me to do something I'm already doing

  3. Googling my "original" ideas.

  4. I heard “well your sister did x faster/better/whatever” all the time growing up. Sucked every time

  5. Trying to get a story out and being constantly interrupted.

  6. I have pretty low self-confidence, but I think the most discouraging thing for me is when someone jokes about or mocks me for either: a) Something I put a lot of effort into b) Not knowing something, or asking a question about something Even if it's a joke that's not intended to be malicious or it's in good fun, it still instantly drains my confidence.

  7. Being interrupted in the middle of a conversation, and then the person who I was talking to immediately forgets about it and talks to the person who interrupted me. It discourages me from wanting to try to be social.

  8. People giving short replies to me, like "k" or "lol" Especially if I'd sent a longer message and got a one-word reply. It just completely destroys my will to talk to the person and makes me feel like they didn't care about talking to me. Bonus: Being left on seen/read. I'll probably never have the courage to message that person again.

  9. When I’m in the middle of explaining something important to someone (something I’m excited about, upset about, etc) and they zone out/interrupt me to talk about something completely unrelated/start talking to someone else. It makes me feel super unimportant, especially if I’m talking about something serious going on in my life. I start to question my worth and wonder why I even try to reach out and form relationships with people.

  10. When I can't see or measure progress. Numbers not moving in the right direction in the gym? Can't nail a new yoyo trick and stuck on the same section time after time? Can't beat a level or set-piece in a game? All of those will discourage me loads.

  11. "Your application has been processed and assessed in line with the specific requirements for this position. After careful consideration, we regret to advise that you have been unsuccessful in this instance." And there goes my dream job...
    — aliaszane

  12. When you are applying for a job and they want you to answer all their questions on the position as well as submitting a cover letter and resume. Jesus Christ, how many times do they need to be repeated the same information. Job searching is already discouraging enough as it is when you get rejected constantly from jobs you are more than qualified for.
